An interesting fact about Bacup
Bacup, Lancashire, iis home to the Britannia Coconutters, a traditional morris dancing troupe. Every Easter Saturday, they perform a unique "beating of the bounds" ceremony, dancing their way across the town accompanied by the Stacksteads Silver Band. Their distinctive costumes include wooden "nuts" on their knees, waists, and wrists for percussion, and they traditionally blacken their faces – a practice steeped in centuries of local folk tradition, often linked to mining communities or traveling minstrels.
